miércoles 11/JUL/12

Evangelio del día

Mt 10, 1-7.

San Benito
First Founder of Religious
Year 517

Benito means "Blessed".

Breads that are multiplied. There was a severe famine in that region and San Benito ordered distributed among the poor all the bread that was in the convent. Left only five loaves, and the monks were many. Seeing them scared by this daring said, "You'll see that the Lord will return with the same generosity with which we shared." The next morning, arrived at the gates of the monastery 200 sacks of flour, and never knew who sent them.

Terrible Temptation. The young Benito terrible temptations came to him impure. In his imagination he had corrupt scenes and got the memory of some woman he had seen for some time and felt the full force of passion. I prayed and asked for help to heaven, and finally when he felt he was about to consent, was launched against a bush full of sharp thorns and wallowed there until his whole body was wounded and hurt. Thus, through such bodily injury did heal the wounds of his soul, and the impure temptation away from him.

His famous rules: RULE THE HOLY. Inspired by God, our saint wrote a regulation for his monks he called "Holy Rule". It is a document that has become famous worldwide, and in which the regulations were based on all other religious communities in the Catholic Church. They recommended certain details like these:
First you need a religious basis (after charity) is humility.
The house of God is to pray and not to talk.
Above all should strive to be friendly as a kind father.
The treasurer or manages the money should not humiliate anyone.
Our motto should be: Work and pray.
Everyone should strive to be exquisite and pleasant in their dealings.
Each community should be like a good family where everyone loves.
Avoid each individual all that is rustic and vulgar. Remember what St. Ambrose said: "Behaving with nobility is a great virtue."
And those who lived with him claimed that all the good that recommended in his Holy Rule, he practiced in his daily life. With these principles, the Benedictine community has done immense good in the world in 15 centuries.
Die standing, as the oaks. On 21 March 543, was the saint in the ceremony of Holy Thursday, when he was dying. He leaned on the arms of two of his disciples, and raising his eyes turned skyward once more that both recommended to those who heard him: "You have longed to go to heaven" and a sigh as of who gets what she had so longed for, was dead.
Two of his monks were praying far away, and suddenly saw a radiant light that rose to the heavens and exclaimed, "Surely our Father Benedict, who has flown into eternity." It was the moment in which the saint died.
