The Fathers of the Church enlighten us



We completed the journey of fasting and, by God's grace, we have come to fruition. For indeed, what is the port for those capitanean a boat, the reward for runners, the medal for athletes, it is this week for us, is the largest and highest good, and she fought in order to obtain the prize. That is why we call [Easter], Semana Grande. And not because their days are longer than others, as there longer hours in other weeks, nor because I have more days than others, because [of that] every week are the same, but because this week the Lord has done great things.



During this week, we call Grande, the long tyranny of the devil came to an end, death was extinguished, the Fort was defeated, dispersed assets, sin was rejected, abolished the curse, heaven is open again, and access to free and unobstructed sky, humans have come into communication with the angels, the separation wall has been torn down, ripped the veil and the God of peace has brought peace to heaven and earth. Those are the reasons why we call Grande this week.



Understandably, this week the crowd of Christians intensify its efforts, some multiply their fasts, their vigils holy other, other handouts. This is a way of witnessing, through the zeal for good works, all the good that the Lord has given us. When the Lord raised Lazarus, the entire city of Jerusalem testified that he had raised the dead through the crowd that came out to meet Christ, as the zeal of those who came out to meet him testified to the magnitude of the miracle performed, the Similarly, our fervor in celebrating Semana Grande proof and witness the magnitude of the great work done once [for us]. For us, that we set out to meet Christ today, we left not a single city of Jerusalem only, but worldwide the churches, thousands, depart to meet Jesus, do not go to meet him waving palm branches, but the Lord Christ offered alms, neighborly love, virtue, fasting, tears, prayer, vigils, and all sorts of virtues.



Also venerate us this week, I will go with you, carrying olive branch and the words of my teaching, thereby depositing my two pennies, as the widow of the Gospel. Formerly Hebrews left children with palm branches in their hands, and crying aloud: Hosanna in the highest heaven, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. We, in turn, get out wearing the guise of classes [palm] the good disposition of the soul in bloom, repeating in a loud voice the [Psalm] now sing: Praise the Lord, O my soul, praise the Lord while I live, [salmodiaré to my God as long].

Los Padres de la Iglesia nos iluminan

Hemos completado la travesía del ayuno y, por gracia de Dios, hemos llegado a buen puerto. Porque efectivamente, lo que es el puerto para quienes capitanean un barco, la recompensa para los corredores, la medalla para los atletas, lo es esta semana para nosotros, es el más grande y sumo bien, y en ella combatimos con la finalidad de obtener el premio. Por eso mismo la llamamos [Semana Santa], Semana Grande. Y no porque sus jornadas sean más prolongadas que las demás, ya que hay jornadas más largas en otras semanas; tampoco porque tenga más días que las demás, ya que [en eso] todas las semanas son iguales; sino porque durante esta semana el Señor ha hecho grandes cosas.

En el transcurso de esta semana, que llamamos Grande, la prolongada tiranía del diablo llegó a su término, la muerte se extinguió, el Fuerte fue vencido, sus bienes dispersados, el pecado fue rechazado, abolida la maldición, el paraíso está nuevamente abierto, y el acceso al cielo libre y expedito, los seres humanos han entrado en comunicación con los ángeles, el muro de separación ha sido derribado, el velo rasgado y el Dios de la paz nos ha traído la paz a cielo y tierra. Esas son las razones por las que denominamos Grande a esta semana.

Es comprensible que durante esta semana la multitud de los cristianos intensifique sus esfuerzos, algunos multiplican sus ayunos, otros sus vigilias santas, otros sus limosnas. Esta es una manera de atestiguar, a través del celo por las buenas obras, todo el bien que nos ha hecho el Señor. Cuando el Señor resucitó a Lázaro, la ciudad toda de Jerusalén atestiguaba de que había resucitado a un muerto a través de la multitud que salía al encuentro de Cristo, ya que el fervor de aquellos que salían a recibirlo atestiguaba la magnitud del milagro  realizado; del mismo modo, nuestro fervor en celebrar la Semana Grande prueba y atestigua la magnitud de las grandes obras realizadas antaño [a favor nuestro]. Porque nosotros, los que partimos actualmente al encuentro de Cristo, no salimos de una sola ciudad, únicamente de Jerusalén, sino que en el mundo entero las Iglesias, a millares, parten al encuentro de Jesús; no salen a recibirlo agitando ramos de palmera, sino que ofrecen a Cristo el Señor la limosna, el amor al prójimo, la virtud, el ayuno, las lágrimas, la oración, las vigilias y toda suerte de virtudes.

Veneremos también nosotros esta semana, yo saldré junto con ustedes, llevando como ramo de olivo las palabras de mi enseñanza, depositando de este modo mis dos moneditas, como la viuda del Evangelio. Antiguamente los niños hebreos salieron con palmas en sus manos, y exclamando en voz alta: Hosanna en lo más alto del cielo, bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor. Nosotros, a su vez, salgamos llevando a guisa de ramos [de palma]  las buenas disposiciones de un alma en flor; repitiendo con fuerte voz el [salmo] que hoy cantamos: ¡Alaba alma mía al Señor, alabaré al Señor mientras viva,[salmodiaré para mi Dios mientras exista].
