Good Friday

The celebration of the Lord's Passion, in its current structure, the result of a synthesis of different traditions, can be justified as follows:

Passion proclaimed: Liturgy of the Word.

Passion invoked: solemn prayers.

Passion venerated: Adoration of the Cross.

Communicated Passion: Holy Communion.

The Liturgy of the Word: Passion proclaimed. After a brief and austere penitential procession, is proclaimed the Passion in this perspective:

1st Reading: Is 52, 13-53, 12: the prophecy of the Servant of Yahweh.

2nd Reading: Heb 4: 14-16; 5, 7-9: the Son's obedience.

Gospel: Jn 18: 1-19, 42: Passion of Jesus.

Passion invoked: the solemn prayers: On this day when we celebrate the passion of Christ for the salvation of all, the Church extends his arms and heart to raise a solemn and universal prayer of intercession for the salvation of the world, with the ten solemn prayers.

Passion venerated: the adoration of the Cross. A double ritualization puts before our eyes the sacred passion: the presentation of the cross as the tree of life and worship of the Cross as a simple sign of love and gratitude.

The Cross is the symbol of love, of absolute surrender without conditions, from full layout to the divine. Cross points north and south, east and west, all-encompassing.

Worship and kiss the Cross on Good Friday to express our joy is saved by the Crucified feel for belong from our baptism.

Communicated Passion: Eucharistic communion. No Mass, according to the ancient custom of the Church, but not missing a communion with Christ Pascual, which allows entering the mystery through sacramental union with the body given for us, with the blood shed for us.

So today we begin, properly, the celebration of Easter. Easter means "step" transit of Jesus through death to new life. This day is centered around him in the Lord's Cross. But not with an air of sadness but for celebration: the Christian community proclaims the Lord's Passion and adores his Cross as the first act of the Paschal Mystery. The red color of the martyrs, not purple (Lent ended yesterday), pedagogically reminds us that we are not at a funeral or mourning. Jesus Christ as High Priest on behalf of all humanity, has surrendered voluntarily, the first martyr to save everyone. We already Triduum, and red pass to White Friday Vigil.

Have a good Easter
Regards
